Plans advanced by the Central Northallerton Development Company for ‘Treadmills’ now enter public consultation phase
Dates have been announced for a Public Exhibition where plans for the development of HM Prison Northallerton can be viewed by the public. This Exhibition event will take place over two days. The first event will be held on Friday 15th June in the Upper Hall of Northallerton Town Hall from 3-8pm, and the second will take place on Saturday 16th June in All Saints Church in Northallerton from 10am-4pm.
Following the event, Exhibition materials will be uploaded to the Treadmills website – thetreadmills.co.uk – and will be on display to the public at Hambleton District Council Civic Centre.
Central Northallerton Development Company has recently unveiled plans to deliver a high quality mixed use development on the site of HM Prison Northallerton to the east of the High Street.
The £16m Treadmills development will feature retail and co-working space in addition to a cinema, restaurants, and Hull-based regeneration specialist Wykeland Group.
Discount supermarket Lidl has recently been revealed as the retail anchor for the project. Hull-based C4DI – the Centre for Digital Innovation – has also been confirmed as the operator of the co-working digital tech office space. Negotiations are underway to finalise operators of the remaining retail and leisure units.
Wykeland Development Director Jonathan Stubbs, speaking on behalf of the Central Northallerton Development Company, said:
“Treadmills presents a once in a multi-generation opportunity to deliver a development that will enhance and safeguard the future prosperity of Northallerton. In the process, the scheme will create 150-200 jobs.
“The scheme has been designed to be an extension of the town, with excellent pedestrian links and new car parking spaces. We have worked closely with Historic England to ensure that the development respects the unique heritage of the site and we will be incorporating the remaining prison buildings into Treadmills to create a scheme that really reflects the character of the local area.
“Given the importance of Treadmills to Northallerton we are keen to engage as many local people in the consultation process as possible. I would encourage any interested local residents and business owners to attend the public exhibition on 15th or 16th June. The project team will be on hand to discuss the scheme and feedback we receive will be used to help further develop plans.”
Following the exhibition events, feedback will be reviewed before a planning application is submitted.
